The comedian’s doctors said they are optimistic she “should be up and running around as usual in a month or less,” Griffin wrote on Instagram.
“I’ve got to tell you guys something,” she explained. “I have cancer. I’m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked! The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing.”
“It’s been a [expletive] four years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine,” Griffin continued. “[P]lease stay up to date on your medical check ups. It’ll save your life.”

Several celebrities commented on Griffin’s post, wishing her a full recovery and telling the entertainer they are praying for her.
“Praying for you, Kathy!” wrote Yvette Nicole Brown.
“Wow,” added Andie MacDowell. “So brave. My heart is wide open for you. Thank God you found it early and a safe recovery.”
Amy Schumer commented, “Love you Kathy!!!! You got this!”
Griffin has had a difficult few years. In 2017, she faced swift backlash for a photo shoot in which she held up a fake blood-soaked head resembling that of then-President Donald Trump.
At the time, Trump condemned Griffin, saying the comedian “should be ashamed of herself,” noting his son, Barron, who was 11 then, had “a hard time” with the grotesque photos.
