Tim Halfin was sitting in a Bible study Saturday when he learned about a missing toddler and immediately felt God telling him he had to search for the 3-year-old boy.
The missing child, Christopher Ramirez, vanished around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to ABC News. His mother, Araceli Nunez, described her son’s rescue as “a miracle.”
“Words cannot describe how I felt when I held him for the first time,” she said. “It was incredible.”
Halfin said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that he credits “divine” intervention for leading him to find little Christopher, who survived nearly four days alone in the woods of Grimes County in Texas.
After beginning his search at 11:45 a.m., the good Samaritan recalled hearing what sounded like a child’s voice.
“I said, ‘Christopher, is that you?’” Halfin said. “Then he speaks again, and I’m like, ‘Whoa! Praise God!’”
Moments later, he found Christopher, who had shed all his clothes and was in the woods completely naked. Immediately, Halfin called 911. Sheriff’s deputies took Nunez to her son.
“I don’t know what to make of it,” the man reflected. “All I know is he was found safe. When I picked him up, he was still talking. He wasn’t shaking, he wasn’t nervous — the things I would expect. Maybe he just sensed, ‘I’ve been found.’”
When Halfin saw a picture of Christopher happily reunited with his mother, he added: “That’s what it’s all about right there. That’s why everybody was praying. That’s why God laid it on my heart to go look, to reunite that boy with his mom.”
Miraculously, Halfin was able to do what drones, aircraft, K-9 units, and a search party had failed to do: find Christopher.
The biggest takeaway from this incident, Halfin said, is to remember not to lose hope.
“Even though things look bleak,” he told ABC, “there’s always tomorrow.”
