Florida cops are being hailed heroes after racing to rescue a woman from a burning car.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office recently released footage showing a terrifying and potentially deadly situation that unfolded Dec. 29, when a vehicle crashed head-on into another car on an overpass.
The car burst into flames and was “partially over a guardrail,” with the driver trapped inside.
“Deputies arrived before Pasco Fire Rescue and used three fire extinguishers to attempt to put out the fire, but the flames came back each time and got closer to the trapped driver,” a Facebook post describing the incident reads.
Watch part of the rescue unfold:
Officers didn’t relent as they continued trying to release the woman inside the blazing vehicle. When attempts to extinguish the fire failed, they began trying to bend the driver’s car door until she could be pulled out. The victim was fortunately rescued before the flames reached her.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office said the video was released with a purpose: to show the scenarios with which cops are regularly faced.
“We share video of this rescue to show the dangers our deputies face each shift,” the description read. “We’re proud of their selfless efforts to ensure the driver made it out of the car alive.”
The video sparked positive reactions among many who watched it on social media. One woman named Shannon wrote, “They are heroes!!!! Not hesitating to help, working together [and] putting their own lives at risk for someone they don’t know.”
And another woman named Amanda added, “True [heroes] that risk their own lives for someone else. This is an everyday thing for these men and [women].”
The victim is said to have sustained serious injuries, but family members are thankful to deputies for saving her life, according to WFLA-TV.
It’s truly a powerful scene to watch the officers save a human life — and just in time. Let’s remember to pray for the victim’s recovery. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
