A new survey reveals the shockingly harsh punishments — including fines, jail time, and detention — likely Democratic voters purportedly support for Americans who refuse COVID-19 vaccination.

A telephone and online hybrid survey from The Heartland Institute and Rasmussen Reports yielded some truly stunning findings. To begin, 55% of Democratic voters would support a “proposal for federal or state governments to fine Americans who choose not to get a COVID-19 vaccine.”
That same idea is backed by just 19% of Republicans and 25% of individuals unaffiliated with a party.
If you are unvaccinated, 55% of Democrats want to fine you, 59% want you confined to your home, 48% want you fined or imprisoned for questioning vaccine efficacy, 45% want you forced into “designated facilities,” 46% want you digitally tracked, and 29% want to take your children.

But it seems fines are just the beginning, as nearly six-in-10 Democratic voters (59%) would support the government “requiring that citizens remain confined to their homes at all times, except for emergencies,” if they declined the vaccine.
Vast majorities of Republicans (79%) and unaffiliated voters (71%) disagree with such a measure.
Respondents were also asked how much they would favor or oppose government fines or even imprisonment for people who publicly question the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in media and on social media.
The results for this question are sure to trouble many free speech advocates, as 48% of Democratic voters are open to the federal or state governments levying fines or jail for those speaking out in this way. Less than 20% of all others — including Republicans (14%) and unaffiliated voters (18%) — agree.

The idea of confinement, though, extends beyond jail cells, as 45% of likely Democratic voters said they favored the government forcing the unvaccinated to “temporarily live in designated facilities or locations.”

This data emerges as questions persist about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with critics continuing to debate over the U.S. government’s handling of the crisis — and with ongoing rhetoric and policymaking in some arenas aiming at those who have declined the vaccine.
