She had experienced some complications beforehand but was in total shock when she realized she was about to deliver baby Niamh at her home on Nov. 24, 2021.
Luckily for Katie, her mom, Joanna Dolan, 53, was staying with her at the time and quickly jumped into life-saving action, according to Somerset Live.
“Within 15 minutes, Niamh had been delivered and was born breech,” Katie said, noting the baby was just 1.5 pounds. “I honestly don’t even remember much, I was in so much shock.”
The birth of baby Niamh happened quickly, with Joanne telling Somerset Live that she was “terrified” when Katie went into labor.
“I didn’t have any time to think,” Joanne told the outlet. “I was terrified but just acted as quickly as I could.”
Joanne had called emergency personnel and was guided through mouth-to-mouth CPR, which she performed twice; it helped save her granddaughter’s life.
Niamh is now 10-weeks-old and is on a ventilator and being fed through a tube as she fights to get bigger and stronger.
“It’s crazy – the medical staff called her a ‘medical miracle baby,'” Katie told Somerset Live. “As they had never seen a baby born this early at home and survived.”
Little Niamh will need to put on more weight before Katie can take her home. Continue to pray for this little baby and her family.
