Disney star Stephanie Beatriz — who voices Mirabel, one of the characters on the animated film “Encanto” — recently revealed she recorded her song for the movie while she was in labor with her first child.
“I didn’t want to tell anybody at Disney, because I didn’t want anyone to freak out,” she told Variety. “But I was already having some contractions when we were scheduled to record that day. I was like, ‘Well, fingers crossed I finish the song before [the baby] comes!'”
As it turns out, Beatriz successfully recorded her song, “Waiting on a Miracle,” and delivered her daughter the next day.
The film’s co-director, Byron Howard, said that, although he and the team knew Beatriz was “very, very, very, very ready” to have her baby, they still weren’t aware just how close she actually was to delivering her child.
In addition to her role in “Encanto,” Beatriz is known for starring in the hit TV shows “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Modern Family” and for the movie “In the Heights.”
Beatriz’s success with “Encanto” pushes back against the narrative that pregnancy and children are a hindrance to one’s life. Certainly, children alter our plans but they are not destructive and we absolutely ought not celebrate ending their lives through abortion.

Nevertheless, in this “Shout Your Abortion” era, when the world claims the greatest priority is one’s self, many have come to see abortion as a viable form of birth control, sending the message that children are undesirable and an unwanted interruption to one’s own desires.
In October 2020, for example, Stevie Nicks boasted about her abortion, claiming during an interview with The Guardian that she’s “pretty sure there would have been no Fleetwood Mac” had she not terminated her pregnancy.
“There’s just no way that I could have had a child then, working as hard as we worked constantly,” she told the outlet. “And there were a lot of drugs, I was doing a lot of drugs … I would have had to walk away.”
CBN’s Faithwire doesn’t know Beatriz’s views on abortion. However, her story highlights the fact that choosing life does not have to mark the end of one’s career. Furthermore, it’s a great reminder that this life is not all about us but about the ways in which we give of ourselves to God and to others.
Congratulations to Beatriz on the birth of her beautiful daughter.
