President Joe Biden released a video Thursday proclaiming one of the best ways parents can keep transgender children “safe and healthy” is to affirm their “child’s identity.”
“To parents of transgender children, affirming your child’s identity is one of the most powerful things you can do to keep them safe and healthy,” Biden said in an official White House video.
The president released the brief proclamation to commemorate the Transgender Day of Visibility and to recognize what the White House called the “resilience, strength, and joy of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people.”
Biden also said the individuals fitting into these categories are “made in the image of God” and called them “brave.”
“I want you to know that your president sees you … for who you are: made in the image of God and deserving of dignity, respect, and support,” he said. “But we know it’s hard when there are those out there who don’t see you and don’t respect you.”
Biden cited “anti-transgender state laws” that he believes attack transgender individuals and their families and called such crackdowns “simply wrong.”

“This administration is standing up for you against all these hateful bills,” the president added. “And we’re committed to advancing transgender equality in the classroom, on the playing field, at work, in the military, in our housing and healthcare systems — everywhere.”
The Biden administration also made other proclamations Thursday, noting the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services would become the first federal cohort to display a trans pride flag, Yahoo! reported.
It doesn’t end there. Not only is the Biden administration urging parents to embrace their children’s gender identities, it is also reportedly encouraging youth hormone usage and surgical reassignment.
A document released by the HHS Office of Population Affairs proclaims, “Research demonstrates that gender-affirming care improves the mental health and overall well-being of gender diverse children and adolescents.”
Another document from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Child Traumatic Stress Network offers similar advice. It assures readers “providing gender-affirming care is neither child maltreatment nor malpractice,” despite the intense debate raging over these practices.
“Gender-affirming care broadly refers to creating an environment that facilitates youth to move through the world safely as the gender they know themselves to be,” the document reads. “This includes developmentally appropriate, evidence-based care provided by medical and mental health experts in partnership with youth, parents, and caregivers.”
The government’s guidance comes amid an ever-intense furor over the transgender issue, particularly when it comes to children. Oklahoma and Arizona just became the latest states to implement bans on biological men who now identify as transgender women playing in female sports.
