It was a typical Saturday around 2 p.m. when the players suddenly heard someone yell that a vehicle had gone into the water; they immediately jumped into the pond to rescue the driver.
“I don’t think anybody even knew the guy,” one of the players told WJXT-TV. “We just sprung into action and wanted to get this man to safety.”
A chaotic scene broke out as the men flocked around the partially-submerged car and started working on getting the driver out. The players pulled the car toward land and scrambled to get inside.
Watch the shocking scenes:
Player Abereon Brown said he was driven to help, thinking amid the chaos, “Save him. Honestly, just save him.” When the group couldn’t open a window or door, one of the men went through the trunk and into the car to get the man out, according to WJXT-TV.
Justin Johnson said the driver “didn’t want to come out” and was clutching the steering wheel, but the players eventually got him out of the car, and paramedics arrived.
“We couldn’t let him die right there in front of us,” Johnson said.
Thankfully, the players rescued the man, who is reportedly expected to recover. Pray for the individual inside the vehicle and his family during this difficult time.
