When teacher and Houston Texans fan Jennifer Simpson lost her grandfather, she felt she was out of options. So she put two of her prized possessions — a J.J. Watt women’s jersey and a pair of Reebok J.J. Watt women’s edition shoes — up for sale, not knowing the surprising act of kindness coming her way.

Watt himself, now a defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals, soon saw Simpson’s tweet and replied directly, telling the fan she should not sell her shoes or jersey because he would help pay the costs for her granddad’s funeral service.
Simpson saw Watt’s tweet Thursday morning. In a follow-up post, the Texans fan wrote she is “overwhelmed by the love and support of people who don’t even know my grandpa’s story.”
The wife of former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete also tweeted to Simpson, saying she and her husband wanted to contribute financially to her grandfather’s funeral.
Comedian and TV host Loni Love also chimed in, saying she wanted to offer some money to the cause.
Many other non-celebrities also tweeted directly to Simpson — who describes herself as a Christ follower — telling them they wanted to give her cash but asked her to please keep her jersey and shoes.
She is now asking for further donations to be made either to her or to the funeral home directly.
This is an awesome story of people coming together over social media to help one another in a truly selfless way. Join us in praying for Simpson as she grieves the loss of her grandfather.
