Christine King told WCAU-TV she was driving along when she saw a man and woman arguing, and the man, who was purportedly armed, threatening to toss the baby off an I-95 overpass.
The scene was so horrific she simply “couldn’t pass” by. So, she took action.
“Then I saw that the man grabbed the baby and tried to throw her over the bridge. That’s when I hit the brakes on my car and went out to stop him,” King told WCAU-TV. “I ran. I said, ‘Just let the baby go. Let the baby go. Give me the baby.”
She tried to grab the baby from the man and didn’t see his gun at the time; he rebuffed her efforts and allegedly said, “I will shoot you,” as she tried to persuade him not to harm the small child.
The baby’s mom, at one point, purportedly took the gun from the man while he was distracted by the intense scene.
Police made their way to the location and struggled with the man before successfully rescuing the baby.
“The police then came and pointed their guns at him, but he didn’t want to let the baby go,” King told WCAU-TV.
She said the dispute was over the baby’s mother purportedly ending a relationship with the man.
As for the woman’s brave actions, she said she would do it all again if needed. It’s a positive ending to a potentially deadly situation. Pennsylvania State Police have reportedly not yet provided details on the incident.
