Several weeks after outrage erupted over a Dallas bar holding a drag show targeting children, the Texas comptroller announced he is launching an investigation into the venue.
In a statement, Comptroller Glenn Hegar said, “I know this is a concerning issue for many Texans, and the images circulating are certainly inconsistent with our Texas values.” He is referring to an early June event at Mr. Misster, a gay bar in Dallas, titled, “Drag Your Kids to Pride.”

Performers at the daytime event encouraged children to join them onstage as they danced in front of neon-glowing signs that read, “It’s not going to lick itself” and, “I licked it so it’s mine.”
In the immediate aftermath of the explicit show — which was billed as a family-friendly” event — Texas state Rep. Bryan Slaton (R) announced he would introduce legislation to ban minors from attending drag shows and described parents who take their children to such events as “perverted adults” who are “obsessed with sexualizing young children,” according to The Hill.
Slaton also urged Hegar to launch an investigation into the matter, suggesting the explicit event violated Chapter 102 of the Texas Business Code, KVII-TV reported.
“My office had already begun the process of investigating this specific event, as well as working to determine if the establishment is liable for the Sexually Oriented Business Fee under Chapter 102 of the Business Code,” stated Hegar.
The comptroller noted he is particularly concerned about the drag show because he has children.
“As a father, I take this matter especially seriously and am committed to ensuring my agency does everything in its power to ensure this establishment as well as others are fully compliant with Texas law,” he said, according to The Weatherford Democrat.
Slaton, for his part, thanked Hegar for his decision to investigate the gay bar, commending the comptroller for “demonstrating strong leadership on this important issue.”
The state lawmaker added, “Texans deserve elected officials who will stand up for our children’s innocence. … Texas should not tolerate the sexualization and exploitation of children.”
