That witness, who wishes not to be named, told WLS-TV he was outside walking his dog just before 7:30 a.m., when he saw the potentially dangerous ordeal unfold.
“I noticed in the corner of my eye, that lady was walking down and a car approached,” he said of the 30-year-old victim. “She told me afterwards he literally did, like, grabbed onto her shoulder and said, ‘Hey baby, you’re looking pretty good.'”
The good Samaritan said he immediately tried to confront the man and grabbed his bear spray.
“I yelled and I ran across the street,” the hero told WMAQ-TV. “He backed off and tried to get back in his car and, as he did, I pulled my pepper spray out and sprayed them and they drove off.”
The witness appeared emotional as he recounted the events, calling them a parent’s worst nightmare, noting he simply wanted to step in to help.
“It’s absolutely a parent’s worst nightmare,” he said. “That their daughter could get snagged off the streets of Chicago.”
Investigators continue to look into the incident. So far, no one is in custody.
This is at least the second incident to unfold in the area in recent days, with a man reportedly approaching another woman in her car Sunday just one block from Wednesday’s abduction attempt.
It’s unclear what happened during that earlier incident. Fortunately, the selfless hero jumped into action to thwart the other attempt.
