The research, conducted by the Convention of States Action in partnership with The Trafalgar Group among likely voters, comes as the cultural debate over the transgender issue hits a fever pitch.
Notably, the majority of every political cohort said underage minors should be required to wait until adulthood to receive surgical sex changes and puberty blockers.
This was true of 97% of Republicans and 85% of Independents. Democrats were the biggest outliers, despite the majority — 53% — saying children should wait until adulthood.
On the flip side, 47% of Democrats did not agree children should be required to wait, painting a stark contrast from the 3% of Republicans and 15% of Independents who said the same.
Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States, said in a statement the data confirms the fact most Americans are “not on board with the far left’s sexual agenda.”
“The idea that young people have to be 16 to drive, 18 to vote, and 21 to drink, and yet can undergo life-altering medical procedures in middle school defies common sense, and the American people see that clearly,” Meckler said. “As the Biden Administration refuses to do the right thing for our children and take action to protect them from the horrors of the far-left agenda, it’s imperative that individual states–like what we see happening in Tennessee right now–step up and stand against it.”
The data comes as public figures face rebuke, cancellation, and suspension from social media for sharing views critical of the transgender movement.
It also comes as children’s hospitals also face public scrutiny over the issue.
The survey was conducted Oct. 8-Oct. 1, 2022, among 1,079 likely general election voters.
