The animated short — “The Procedure,” voiced by “Hercules” actor Kevin Sorbo — was created “in secret by top-level Hollywood animators,” according to LOOR, a soon-to-launch streaming service.
Marcus Pittman, CEO and founder of LOOR TV, told CBN’s Faithwire why the company created the video, and what he’s hoping to accomplish through it. “The Procedure” (graphic content alert: watch here) is part of a six-episode series, a partnership with Laura Klassen and her pro-life organization Choice42.
“It’s based off of this guy’s testimony,” Pittman said, noting the short is predicated on a man’s real-life work in a hospital and his horror witnessing an unborn baby’s abortion death.
The graphic animation shows the killing of a small child in the womb from start to finish. The scenes, which are hard to watch, are intended to draw viewers in so filmmakers can send a message.
“There’s something really special about animation as a medium … it humanizes the baby in the womb when you watch it,” Pittman said. “You absolutely relate with this baby in the womb, and there’s just something that’s unmistakable about how you feel for that child.”
He continued, “You know it’s fake, but you’re still drawn to it.”
Watch Pittman discuss the video:
Pittman said it’s important to emotionally grip audiences, especially considering the controversial nature of the subject matter and the tendency some have to be so fact and data-driven that they miss the lost humanity of the unborn.
“The facts and data are that abortion kills an innocent child, and now we attach the emotion and the art to it to really give people a way to comprehend that,” he said.
Considering the emotional impact the video could have on viewers, Pittman agreed it’s an animated short abortion doctors likely won’t want people to see.
“If you can actually watch this and not be moved emotionally, it’s because you’re an abortion doctor,” he quipped.
“The Procedure” was reportedly made by a number of animators, including some who work for Disney and Dreamworks — individuals who worked covertly on the project so as not to draw rebuke from their respective employers.
Pittman also discussed his plan for LOOR TV, the upcoming streaming service geared toward conservatives and Christians. Unlike other platforms, users will have the ability to have a say in the types of projects they want their money to fund.
“You’ll be able to subscribe per month just like normal, but every week you’ll get credits based on your monthly subscription, and you’ll be able to spend those credits funding the movies and TV shows that’ll be on the platform,” he said. “So, this is your way to connect directly with artists without liberal Hollywood executives telling you or making content for you with your money.”
