Derral Eves, one of the executive producers of “The Chosen,” shared the surprise on Twitter:
The first two episodes of season three debuted in theaters over the weekend, scoring the No. 3 spot in box office sales, competing with major Hollywood movies. The successful box-office showing led the creators of the Bible-based show to extend the theatrical release through Dec. 1.
Dallas Jenkins, creator and director of “The Chosen,” recently spoke with CBN’s Faithwire about the success of the show, which launched in 2017.
“It’s not shocking to me,” Jenkins said. “From day one, I’ve been kind of like, ‘OK, God can do anything and my job is just to make a show that honors the spirit and intentions of Jesus in the Gospels.”
Jenkins said God has “so clearly” been present since the early days of “The Chosen.”
As far as success, the Christian filmmaker said his “primary measure of success is am I honoring Jesus and the Gospels, can I sleep at night knowing that I believe God is pleased with what I’ve provided.”
“I know that sounds like a cliché, but it’s true,” Jenkins continued. “I genuinely believe that God is pleased with what we’re doing, with what we’ve delivered. And as long as we keep doing that, that’s success.”
