“Great News: Former #NFL RB Peyton Hillis is ‘on road to recovery’ after the accident in which he rescued his kids from drowning,” Kleiman tweeted Thursday. “Hillis was in critical condition and remained at the ICU for an extended period.”
But the reporter said the 36-year-old former player is “now off the ventilator” and is doing better.

A separate Facebook post from Hayley Davis, Hillis’ sister, seems to confirm Hillis is improving.
“I just wanted to update everyone that Peyton is off the ventilator and is doing great!!” she wrote. “God has truly blessed us and we couldn’t be more thankful.”
She said her brother still has a “long road of recovery” and asked for continued prayers.
As Faithwire recently reported, Hillis, who played with the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Giants throughout eight football seasons, experienced what TMZ called a “swimming accident,” with Hillis being hospitalized to treat his kidneys and lungs.
Hillis’ children were reportedly OK after the terrifying incident in Pensacola, Florida, though he faced a major health battle due to his injuries.

The story made national news after reporter Alyssa Orange tweeted Jan. 5 that Hillis was confirmed to be in an accident and was airlifted to the hospital, where he remained “unconscious in the ICU.”
Adding to this information, I have confirmed Hillis was in a swimming accident in Pensacola, FL and helicoptered to the hospital. He remains unconscious in the ICU.

Hillis’ uncle, Greg Hillis, shared Davis’ Facebook update about Hillis as well Thursday, adding Davis was also a “hero” when the children faced danger in the ocean.
“Haley is Peyton’s sister who was also a hero in the water alongside Peyton!” he wrote. “She also had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance!”
This latest news about his improvement is a significant praise report for those praying for Hillis. Continue to pray for him on this journey to recovery.
