Joshua Bassett made the comments while accepting the prize for “Favorite Male TV Star” of a kids’ show. After crediting his fans, cast mates, and the crew of the Disney series, the 22-year-old actor said, “I’d love to thank my Savior, Jesus Christ.”
“There are a lot of people here who are burdened, broken-hearted, and have been beaten down by life,” he said. “I’m here to tell you, for those of you who’ve lost hope, there’s a very real God who loves you more than you will ever possibly know. His promise is peace and my testimony is my healing.”
“Remember: Forgive quickly, love freely, and walk courageously,” the actor continued, seemingly a reference to Micah 6:8, in which it is written, “[W]hat does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (NIV).
He added, “Love always wins in the end.”
In mid-February, Bassett earned media attention when he was baptized at Bethel Church, a charismatic congregation in Redding, California. At the time, he told those gathered at the service, “I grew up Christian, and I ran the other way as far as I could go in pursuit of ‘truth,’ and that only ended in addiction, depression, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, etc.”
“And no other teacher gave me anywhere near the peace that Jesus Christ did,” he added to much applause from the congregation. “And I’m here to publicly declare Him as my Lord and Savior.”
Since his baptism, Bassett has shared several faith-inspired posts on social media, including a video of himself singing a song with lyrics presumably inspired by Matthew 16:26, when Jesus told His disciples, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul” (NIV)?
It should be noted that, in 2021, during an interview with Clevver News, Bassett identified himself as part of the LGBT community. It is, however, unclear where he stands now on the issue.
Bassett, a singer and actor, just launched his tour, “The Complicated Tour,” in San Francisco. The series of shows will see the entertainer perform in 32 cities across the U.S., the U.K., Germany, the Netherlands, and France, ending with a final stop in London on May 9.
Please pray for the Disney celebrity as he embarks on this faith journey.
