Cartoon Network’s animated kids’ series, “We Baby Bears,” will introduce “nonbinary” pronouns in an upcoming episode, with characters using “they” and “them” pronouns.
To commemorate Pride month, the series — targeting kids ages six years and older — is airing what is described as an “LGBTQ inclusive episode,” according to GLAAD, a leftist advocacy organization.

When the new characters arrive on the scene, they introduce themselves with “preferred pronouns.”
One character says, “I am the great Winnifred, she/her. Actor extraordinaire!”
“Our crew also has a new addition,” added one of the bears in the show. “Meet Box! They use they/them pronouns and they make an exceptionally good quiche!” In response, another character, Polly the Captain, said, “I use they/them pronouns as well!”
The episode drew swift backlash online, with the prominent Twitter account Libs of TikTok condemning the scene: “They’re after your kids.”
Executives at Cartoon Network defended the decision to include “nonbinary” pronouns in a children’s show.
“During the production of ‘We Baby Bears,’ a few crew members came out with they/them pronouns, and we felt that it was important to reflect that in the show,” stated the network. “Our show team values representation because it’s something everybody on the show deeply cares about, and that’s why we aim to cast LGBTQ talent, like Alok Vaid-Menon, Harvey Guillén, and Dominique Jackson.”
Activist Dominique Jackson, a male who identifies as transgender, was featured in an episode of “We Baby Bears” that aired last month.
Clips of the episode in question come amid new data showing the majority of Americans believe in the biological reality that there are only two sexes — male and female.
The Rasmussen Reports survey, which questioned 1,116 U.S. adults online and over the phone from May 24-25, 2023, found 71% of American respondents agree male and female are the only two sexes. Additionally, 57% said they “strongly agree” with that statement.
