Former NFL star Benjamin Watson is on a mission to save the unborn, working with a prominent pro-life organization to be a “voice for the voiceless.”
“As believers, we are called to be voices for the voiceless,” Watson recently told CBN’s Faithwire. “And that manifests itself in a lot of different ways.”
Watson is currently vice president of strategic relations for Human Coalition, a pro-life organization, and he recently released the book, “The New Fight for Life: Roe, Race, and a Pro-Life Commitment to Justice,” underscoring his focus on the pre-born as well as a multitude of important issues.
The retired NFL tight end, who left the league in 2020, said he and his wife, Kirsten, were already actively serving mothers and fathers while he was playing football.
That work now continues with his Human Coalition duties, among other efforts, with Watson explain why he believes it’s so important to be active and diligent after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion across the country.
“Right now is a very contentious time in America,” he said. “Right now, in this post-Roe era, there’s just so many narratives to combat and so many people that are trying to figure out what’s the best way to serve. So, it has been an honor and I believe a duty to speak into this topic.”
Watson also explained the importance of Christians speaking up on tough issues, noting it often opens the door for others who feel silenced to find the courage to step out in boldness.
“As people of faith, it’s imperative that we speak about certain issues because there are others who may feel the same way,” he said. “But, because of their circumstances, their job, their family pressures, they feel silenced.”
Watson said humanity has always been plagued with a “winner take all” mentality, which sometimes precludes people from seeking peace or coming to a place where they can love one another even in their disagreements. Regardless, he called for Christians to show respect.

“When you read through Scripture and it talks about making every effort to keep the bonds of peace and it talks about, especially amongst the saints … even if we disagree on certain things, but having that certain level of respect,” Watson said. “It’s all rooted in the Imago Dei. It’s all rooted in human dignity and people having inherent value, even if they are heathens going a total opposite direction than we want to go; they still have value in the sight of God.”
As for “The New Fight for Life,” Watson said the book was written to help people explore and navigate our post-Roe world. While believers should celebrate the abortion ruling being overturned, he said Christians also must recognize the issue isn’t settled and “abortion-determined women are still going to be very prevalent in America.”
Watson also shared a sobering reality — that the majority of women who seek abortion note they would have preferred to parent if their life circumstances were different surrounding child care, health care, wealth, relationship with the father, and other elements.
“How can we as pro-lifers engage with those [women] and address those issues, whether it be relationship with the dad, housing, reliable employment, the list goes on?” Watson asked. “I believe those are all pro-life issues, and we have to address them as such in order to turn off the faucet.”
