The harrowing ordeal, caught on bodycam footage, unfolded Aug. 29 around 6 p.m., when Officer Brandan Fraser noticed a car speeding by him.
Once he caught up to the vehicle, the cop realized the situation wasn’t a routine traffic stop. Fraser, recognizing an 18-month-old boy inside the car was in distress, immediately jumped into gear.
“We got a baby in here dying,” the child’s mother yelled. “Help! Help!”
The heart-stopping video shows Fraser quickly and calmly helping the baby breathe again.
“I look inside, and there’s a child that’s having some kind of medical emergency when the uncle hands him over to me,” Fraser said, according to WDIV-TV. “[There was] spit and all types of saliva around his mouth. It looked like he was maybe choking, so I put him on my forearm, and I administered a couple of back blows to him when I felt some saliva and vomit fall onto my arm.”
Watch the shocking moments unfold:
Despite the baby boy turning blue and facing a life-threatening situation, it took only moments for Fraser to get the child breathing again before officers transported the boy to a nearby hospital.
The cop called the positive conclusion to the ordeal “a big relief.”
“The child started breathing, and you saw that color started coming back around its lips,” he said.
The baby is doing fine after the incident, WDIV-TV reported.
