The music competition show “American Idol” honored Christian singer Mandisa in a televised performance Monday night.

Former “Idol” stars Danny Gokey, Melinda Doolittle, and Colton Dixon joined forces to perform Gospel hit “Shackles (Praise You)” in a touching tribute that received a standing ovation from judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie and applause from the studio audience.
Mandisa previously sang the same song in 2006, during her time on the fifth season of “Idol” before finishing in ninth place.
Watch Gokey, Doolittle, and Dixon deliver a powerful performance:
Gokey, Doolittle, and Dixon each spoke after the performance, showering praise upon Mandisa, and telling the audience a bit about their personal friendships with the late singer.
“She was a fan of people,” Gokey said, noting how Mandisa cared for others. “She was a cheerleader for other people’s music.”
And Dixon said “Shackles,” in many says, summed up Mandisa’s entire life.
“I think she came in praising,” he said. “I think she left praising. So, we’re going to miss her, but our loss is heaven’s gain.”
Mandisa, who was 47, was found dead April 18. It will reportedly take a few weeks — and perhaps even months — before an official cause of death is released.
Continue to pray for Mandisa’s friends and loved ones as they mourn her loss.
